PROCEEDS

supporting abdu’s community near goz beida and camp djabal.
“WE are here, because you were there”
— Ambalanaver ‘Siva’ Sivanandan, political thinker, activist & writer
Although not the primary objective at the onset of this storytelling project, we soon realised that - through any funds raised - we may have the opportunity to support the community of displaced people in and around Camp Djabal.
Many of Abdu’s friends and relatives currently live in the vicinity of Camp Djabal (Chad), near the western Sudanese border. To reduce reliance on international aid, which, to some degree cements dependency on external sources, we would like to support means for the community to become more self-sustaining.
Already they have wasted no time, advancing their own agricultural endeavours in the Goz Beida region. However, in a climate where personal safety and access to land cannot be guaranteed (e.g. due to raids), additional support is never amiss.
To do so, we are also considering submitting the book to an external publisher (we need to find the right one!). The book has been self-publishing in order to retain closer control and oversight of any proceeds generated, not least to maximise them for the intended recipients.
Depending on how this first edition is received, and reader feedback, we will consider a second expanded edition as well as an audiobook.
We do not want to sell a story, but rather use storytelling as a means to grow awareness, and help those who are resisting hardships with their very bodies, as a result of Sudan’s troubled past and present.
ways you can Contribute.
Due to limited funding available, a limited number of first edition book copies have been printed. A second edition and an audiobook are planned.
We are grateful to the University of Edinburgh, as well as to specific project champions who supported our submission to the Student Experience Grant Scheme and associated funds.
